![]() There was also a note inside the manual, that this is the Erebus 1.02 model and there is now a dip switch inside, which can be used to bypass the AMP AR envelope, and use cv instead to directly control the AMP from the RES input.Īnd maybe the best part of this synth: It's paraphonic when played through midi or 2 cv sources! Also the mod wheel is routed to cv output, so it can be used with any of the inputs. I must say that Dreadbox customer support is A++. I also got the instructions how to fix the Microbrute's constant gate voltage of 0.12V (making a quiet sound in the Erebus) by tweaking a trimmer on the board. That apparently can happen if the package is transported upside down in a shaking truck or dropped. The two PCB boards had become detached during transport, so I just opened it up and pushed them back together. I emailed dreadbox and they answered almost immediately. I had some initial problems with the unit, it didn't seem to work properly. The Microbrute's output is pretty quiet and the Erebus is loud, so that alone makes it difficult.) ( EDIT: I didn't really end up playing them together, they are so different that they work best as separate instruments. 3 osc + sub through either of the filters sounds pretty massive. Both have also audio in and gate and pitch inputs and outputs, so you can play them together. The two are also completely inter-patchable, so it's easy to use the extra envelope or lfo from the other one. I think it's character is pretty much the opposite of the Microbrute, which makes it a great addition. I guess it also has a vintage analog vibe to it, but I'm not very familiar with vintage gear. The Erebus pretty much sounds like the Mass Effect soundtrack, if you are familiar with the game. You can also modulate the length of the echo. This synth excels in long, smooth and evolving sounds, and the echo module is really nice. Even the raw oscillator sound is very thick to my ears. I don't know if "warm, smooth and creamy" are cliches, but that's what it sounds like. I got it yesterday and played several hours with it already.
